Bonjour! Hello! Oki! Kindergarten families,

This week in Kindergarten

What a beautifully sunny and exciting week we have had in Kindergarten! We started out our week reflecting on our long weekend adventures and shared them in writing/pictures. Students were demonstrating their early writing skills by sounding out words to represent their activities they had done over the long weekend and were very excited to share their work! It sounded like a fun and restful long weekend for all.

We also briefly revisited life cycles, and this week we narrowed in specifically on the life cycle of a butterfly! We talked about the steps in becoming a butterfly, first the egg, then caterpillar, cocoon, and finally the butterfly. We discussed what our noticings were, such as how caterpillar’s make their own cocoons and how butterfly wings were the same on both sides (symmetrical). We made our own butterflies by painting one side of the butterfly with paint, and then folded the paper in two to create our symmetrical butterflies!

This week, we also continued working on comparing lengths by measuring objects in the classroom that were smaller than a ruler, bigger than a ruler, and the same size as a ruler. Students found a variety of creative objects that demonstrated their understanding of different lengths!

Finally, we created some crazy, unique, animals that students have never seen before! We discussed groups of animals such as ocean, jungle, and farm animals, etc., and created our own creatures by selecting different parts of each one! Students came up with lion heads, octopus bodies, zebra ears and giraffe legs! So much fun.

Thank You Volunteers

This week, Tuscany School students and staff wanted to extend a huge THANK YOU to all the amazing volunteers that have and continue to support us this year! We truly appreciate having so many amazing family and community members join us to make this year such a success.

Students prepared a video AND wonderful heart flowers to say thank you to our volunteers. Please feel free to watch our thank you video with your child and they can share with you some happy memories of activities spent with our volunteers.

Roll to School

From May 30 to June 10, students at Tuscany School are encouraged to “Roll to School” to promote a healthy lifestyle with physical movement! If your home is too far away to “roll to school” from - don’t worry, students can “roll” before or after school, too! This could be by bike, scooter, rollerblades, or skateboard!

Each day in class, we will be tracking our participation, and those who participate will have the chance to enter their name into a draw to win a helmet, bike lock, and water bottle! There will be ONE winner in EACH class in our school!

Alien in-Line Skating

From May 30 - June 17, Tuscany School students will be participating in the Alien In-Line program! Alien In-line will provide protective gear for each student (knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet) however for hygiene reasons it is encouraged that students bring their own helmet to school if possible on these days for use during the program. Bike, skateboard, and hockey helmets with a safety certification sticker attached (e.g. CSA, CPSC, ANSI, Snell B-95, ASTM F-1446 or F-1447) and in good condition are all acceptable. Students are also invited to bring in other protective gear (knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards) and their own inline skates if they would like. Please make sure that all equipment that is brought to school is clearly labelled with your child’s name on it. Please also ensure that your child is wearing socks on these days as they are required to participate in the in-line skating. We are also looking for volunteers to support our students during their Alien In-line classes. If you are interested in volunteering please sign up using this link. Please note that all volunteers are required to have a current avoid Police Security Clearance.
