December 10, 2021

Bonjour! Hello! Oki! Kindergarten families,

This week in Kindergarten

We can’t believe there is only one week left before our Winter Break! Although it is nearing the end of the 2021 school year, and the students are definitely feeling excited for the holidays, we still have had such a busy week! We began our week with more focus on our favourite seasons by highlighting what we wear in these seasons, what we see, and what we like to do. We practiced some new sentence starters in French («je vois…», «je fais…», «je porte…», et «ma saison préférée est…») to support our conversations about the seasons. It was especially awesome to see all the connections students have developed with their seasonal vocabulary and understanding of the changes in the seasons as we walked to the Coulee on Wednesday!

A BIG thank you to our volunteers for joining us on our lovely walking field trip to the Coulee on Wednesday morning and afternoon! The students were absolutely fantastic - from our long journey to the Coulee from school, to the land art with Karen, to the outdoor snowy snacks, and then back to the school again. We look forward to continuing to grow our understanding of learning with the land and Na’a. Please visit our separate blog post to see some amazing photos of the students’ land art, and our snowy adventures to the Coulee. We look forward to our next visit in the spring!

This week, we have rehearsed many times for our big Winter Celebration performance next week! Each class in the school has their own holiday/winter themed song, and we will be singing them throughout the next week to spread some winter cheer! If you’d like a sneak peek, ask your child to sing the song for you at home. And, if you are waiting for the grand reveal, stay tuned for the video link we will be sending out next week of our class performance!

Our math journey with patterns continued this week as we had the students further their understanding by identifying the core of patterns, extending their patterns through repetition, and creating a variety of patterns. To continue patterning practice at home, you could try a fun interactive game that the students loved using in the classroom this week: https://www.abcya.com/games/fuzz_bugs_patterns.
