This week in Kindergarten
The number 5 was a hit this week with students beginning to demonstrate more independence by showing each number in many different ways. Students worked to show the number 5 in up to ten different ways: numeral, word, 5-frame, 10-frame, tally marks, picture, dice, domino, and fingers.
Students explored drawing through engaging in self-portraits! They practiced drawing people and then applied what they’d learned to create a drawing of themselves. Students identified body parts and their shapes, and ensured these were included in their self-portraits, while controlling their pencil to create these images.
This week we were continuing to build on our understanding of patterns. We explored how patterns must REPEAT with a rule of “3 times” to be identified as a pattern. We made patterns through sound, movements, colours and objects. We discussed that when we say the pattern out loud, it helps us to predict what will come next.
French Immersion students expanded their oral language skills by combining phrases previously practiced to create a complete sentence. J’aime (I like) and the vocabulary practiced during our ‘thankfulness’ lessons became full sentences to say the elements of their life that they liked. We also have been practicing asking to use the bathroom (Puis-je aller aux toilettes?) and using oui and non when asked if they need to use the bathroom.

Fun Lunch / Kindergarten Fun Snack Day
On October 28th, there will be our first Kindergarten Fun Snack Day - please contact School Council to volunteer or if you have questions.
Reminders
No School on Monday, October 18th!
Please pack school snacks and lunches for after-school care separately.
Please dress weather-appropriate. As the weather cools down, we need to be mindful to be dressed in clothing that still allows us to enjoy the great outdoors.
