Bonjour! Hello! Oki! Kindergarten families,
This week in Kindergarten
We have had another busy, but exciting week in Kindergarten! We began discussing healthy eating, and made some connections between our five senses and the 3 food groups in Canada’s Food Guide (Fruits & Vegetables, Grains, and Proteins). Students have been sorting different foods, exploring their snacks through the five senses, and comparing healthy and unhealthy foods.
We also used foods to help us begin learning more explicitly about how to subitize (recognize at a glance) groups of objects. We learned some fun games using images on the smartboard and dice shakers! Students had the chance to challenge themselves to recognize as many numbers as possible without relying on counting the dots on the dice.
(Jessie/Michelle)We were extra fortunate this week to connect with all the French Immersion students in an assembly, our first one in two years! We had Mr. Roger Dallaire come to our school and share his story about his life as a Franco-Albertain, and his adventures of connecting with others who are French throughout Canada. He shared that “c’est un petit monde!” et le Français est partout through music, song, and dance! What fun!
Since Spring is around the corner, we decided to brighten up our rooms with some dandelion artwork (les pissenlits)! The students worked really hard at blending together some colours to create a beautiful cool or warm toned background for our dandelion art. They then drew special seeds inside the dandelion, and some that were floating around in hopes to grow some more dandelions and spread the word that Springtime is near!
Scholastic Books
It was really exciting having students join us in the book fair this week! The students absolutely loved “shopping” for some amazing new books and school supplies, and were demonstrating some independence in selecting books they were interested in.
This week, we also sent home the April Scholastic flyer, and have linked the digital flyers in Google Classroom, as well as “how-to” guides for parents on how Scholastic Reading Club is used. Orders are placed online only, and if you use our classroom code, you can receive free shipping on orders of over $40. We recommend placing orders by April 20th.
