Bonjour! Hello! Oki! Kindergarten families,
This week in Kindergarten
What a fun Spring week we have had in Kindergarten! Or, maybe a Winter week…? The weather sure has made for some fun Calendar conversations! Mme Smyth has been so happy to return to the classroom and see the students after being away for over a week.
We have continued our learning about nutrition recently. We discovered that the different food groups impact our bodies in different ways! The fruit and vegetables group helps us GLOW (pétiller), the protein group helps us GROW (pousser), and the grain group helps us GO (partir).
We have also been practicing using tally marks with more accuracy to show different groups of numbers. We tallied up our drawings of healthy foods, and even challenged ourselves to draw tally marks to represent the total of all our drawings.
Today, PM Kindergarten students got to participate in Tuscany School’s Earth Day celebrations. We joined a school-wide video call (Tuscany Together) where some other classes shared videos of their work related to Earth Day. We also did some classroom projects, which will include AM students next week. The students shared so many great ways that we can care for the Earth (La terre / Na’a). We hope these conversations will continue at home, too!
Zoo Survey
We are very excited to share that we are planning a Kindergarten trip to the Calgary Zoo in June! To help us organize this visit, we are requesting that all parents complete a very short survey about Zoo passes and possibilities of volunteering. Once we have gathered all of this information, we will be planning out the final details and will share this with everyone as soon as possible.

May Coulee Visit - Volunteers Needed
On Wednesday, May 4, Kindergarten students at Tuscany School will be visiting the Twelve Mile Coulee! We will be reconnecting with Stephanie Bartlett and our artist in residence, Karen Tamminga-Patton.
We will need volunteers in order to support this visit. If you have a valid Police Clearance and have registered with the office, we would love to have you join us! Please sign up here if you’re able to support us:

Self Portraits
Next week, Mme Smyth’s classes are going to create unique self-portraits, which reinforces that we are all unique. In order to do so, any pieces of nature (small sticks, pebbles, stones, flowers, etc.) would be perfect for this activity. If you have any at home, or find some pieces in the community that could be brought in by Monday, April 25, that would be awesome! Here are some examples:
Celebration Pictures
As we continue to explore celebrations and traditions this year, we invite families to send in photos (either printed, cut out from magazines, etc.) of their families special celebrations/traditions. We have a special art activity next week where we will be using these images, so please send them in by next Wednesday, April 27. Pictures can include: holidays, family events that are important traditions, any special celebration your family engages in. **Please note that these photos will be painted/glued over, so if you are sending in these photos, they will not return in the same condition.**
