This week in Kindergarten
This week, we wasted no time jumping back into some heavy duty learning! Our week started with learning about the five senses. We spent time exploring new vocabulary in French about our body parts and five senses, as well as engaging in some exciting activities using our senses! Students had the chance to create textured name art using a variety of materials, test their sense of hearing with mystery egg shakers, try their hand at drawing blindfolded, discuss and create drawings of foods they like/dislike, and even paint with some spice-scented paints!
We used our learning about the five senses in our exploration of the Coulee, as we took part in a scavenger hunt where each location focused on one of the senses. Of course the "taste location" was a highlight, as it was where we ate snack. We also contributed to "making a mark" on a 12 foot canvas piece of art, and shadow play was enjoyed by everyone. HUGE thank you to our amazing volunteers who supported this visit to the Coulee! We would not be able to have these experiences without your support!
In Math, PM students began working with the number six, breaking it up in a variety of ways. We looked at 2 part ways like “5 and 1” “4 and 2” “3 and 3” and “6 and 0.” However, some children took it a step further and broke it up in complex ways, such as “2, 2 and 2” and “2, 1, 1, 1 and 1.” We will be continuing this work next week, along with introducing this to AM students.
If you are looking for a home extension, get six items and ask your child to show you how many ways they can break it up. They are welcome to write down the various combinations and bring it to school to show the class!
PM students in French Immersion were on the receiving end of a little April Fool's Day trick today... their teachers mysteriously began to resemble each other! The students had no clue if it was Mme Roussy or Mme Smyth... until the trick was revealed of course! They had just done a sneaky swap ;) Happy April Fool's Day!
World Autism Awareness Day
Saturday, April 2, 2022 is World Autism Awareness Day! Tuscany School will be observing this day on Monday, April 4th by wearing blue. Please encourage your child to wear any blue clothing/accessories on Monday. Please also feel free to check out these websites to learn more and discuss with your child about people with autism:
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair has returned to Tuscany School! Students were excited to check it out this week and browse through the new arrivals of books. Next week, students will have the chance to make purchases! Please feel free to send your child with cash or a cheque if you’d like them to buy books during our purchasing timeslot. Parents are also welcome to pop into the book fair to make in-person purchases! The online book fair runs March 31st - April 10th.
