Bonjour! Hello! Oki! Kindergarten families, 


Last week in Kindergarten

Thanks for your patience with this update - last week was such a busy week that we took a few days to rest and are ready to share the amazing things we did last week in Kindergarten! We hope that you are reading this message while resting and relaxing on your Spring Break adventures wherever that may be!

In our final week before Spring Break, we participated in many fun activities. We began our Monday by honouring World Down Syndrome Day; opening up the conversation around being unique and celebrating our individual differences. We all wore unique socks and discussed what this truly meant. We then designed our own pair of unique socks and shared the positive parts of being unique and why that is so important/special. 

Throughout the week, PM French Immersion students learned about “La journée de la Francophonie” (International Francophonie Day) where we celebrated and discussed the importance of French language and culture. Opening up the conversation about what “La Francophonie” means was a great way to dive into French culture/language around the world. We celebrated popular cultural activities in Québec with Cabane à Sucre (Sugar Shack) where we created our own mini sugar shacks and learned about how maple syrup is produced. We also listened to Franco-Albertan music and listened for key words in French that students could recognize. 

On Friday, March 18, AM French Immersion students had the chance to participate in a French-Immersion-wide day to celebrate “La journée de la Francophonie.” Thank you to our amazing volunteers who not only supported our class, but other classes around the school! We loved having you in to help our students celebrate this exciting piece of French culture. It was an awesome way for our French Immersion students to connect deeper with their learning and appreciation for French culture/language. 

Lastly, and a crowd favourite, was our special St. Patrick’s Day celebration! As I am sure you have heard by now, we had a silly and cheeky little leprechaun come visit us at school on Thursday! He left paint marks on the floor, and gold glitter by a letter that he wrote to us. His limerick shared that he had visited us, he had lost a shoe, and that if we found him we could have his treasure! So, we decided as a class to create some leprechaun traps to capture François le Farfadet. Students from all Kindergarten classes collaborated amazingly to create some well-thought out traps. Perhaps we will finally capture François!


Headphones/Earbuds

Thanks to everyone who has already sent LABELED headphones/earbuds to school! We have had a shift in technology throughout Tuscany School, so we have been re-thinking how best to use this and are excited to provide story listening opportunities to our Kindergarten students.


Coulee Visit

On Wednesday, March 30th, we will be heading for our second trip to the Coulee! We are so excited to continue to dive into Land Based Learning and Land Art. Our artist in residence will be joining us, as well as some important volunteers who will continue to share Saa’kokoto’s teachings with us. Because it will be in spring time, anticipate some muddy walks! Please make sure your child is prepared for the weather (rain boots, rain coats, etc.). Also, please make sure they have water bottles and a wasteless lunch so we can keep the land as litter-free as possible.
