December 3, 2021

Bonjour! Hello! Oki! Kindergarten families,

This week in Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten, we have continued our journey exploring and discussing the seasons. This week our focus was on winter! We created snowflakes by cutting out a variety of familiar shapes, such as: rectangles, triangles, circles and squares. We discussed how we can prepare for winter and how animals prepare for winter, too! The students loved learning about which winter animals hibernate or have adaptations in order to prepare for the winter.

A very fun winter activity we did on Friday with PM students was creating salt dough decorations! Students worked on their fine motor skills by rolling out the salt dough with a variety of rollers (glue sticks, cups, rolling pins) and designing their winter decorations! We have some lovely pine trees, snowflakes, candy canes, and snowmen that students have created to brighten our classroom before the winter break.

Sadly, this was the last week with MRU teacher candidates in our classrooms, Ms. Rau, Mme Tasnim, and Mme Roy, as they were wrapping up their practicas today. We are so grateful and thankful for their hard work in our school supporting students. Thankfully, they will be back to visit and volunteer in our classrooms in the coming weeks!

Coulee Visit Next Week

Next week, Tuscany School students will all be visiting the Coulee with Elder Saa’kokoto and artist Karen Tamminga-Patton. Here is some important information:

  • Wednesday, December 8th (for both AM & PM)
  • Dress warmly and for wet weather
  • We will be creating land-art using materials found in nature
  • Volunteers should arrive 5 minutes prior to school beginning (we will be contacting those volunteering separately).

We still need a couple volunteers for the PM, particularly in Mme Smyth’s class. Please follow the links to sign up:

Parent Resources Folder

If you haven’t already, please take a look through our Parent Resources folder in Google Drive. You will need to use your child’s CBE gmail to log in to access the folder. We will be growing the resources in each targeted folder as our needs develop and our learning continues. If there is anything you’d like to see in this folder, please send us an email.

Tie Dye - Winter Celebration Art Day

During the final week before Winter Break, we will be hosting a Winter Celebration Art Day in Kindergarten! We will be creating tie-dye socks to wear during pyjama day, creating snack cups, and engaging in some wintery activities! The purpose of this day is to help build community in our classrooms and give students a chance to socialize with their peers in a different way. This will be happening:

  • December 14th - PM students
  • December 15th - AM students

We are also asking for one volunteer to assist us with tie-dyeing in each class. Please email your child’s teacher if you’d like to help with this, and we will arrange for one volunteer in each class.
