June 17, 2022

Bonjour! Hello! Oki! Kindergarten families,

This week in Kindergarten

Mme Smyth's classes were so excited to continue on with Alien In-Line this week! They really worked hard to learn some new skills and tricks, and were delighted on our finals days with a disco party in the gym! Well done everyone!

We also spent a bit of time this week preparing for Father’s Day! We discussed how this day can be for celebrating our own fathers, as well as any other important men in our lives - like grandfathers, uncles, cousins, brothers, etc. We have made a secret gift that you’re encouraged to open on Sunday! Happy Father’s Day to our Kindergarten families!

As we prepare for our zoo field trip next Tuesday or Wednesday, we wanted to ensure students had a strong understanding of the zoo and the impact it has on animals! We began our conversation about good vs. bad enclosures. We discussed the needs of animals, and some important elements animals needed to feel happy and safe in their enclosures, just like the animals do at the Calgary Zoo! Students shared they felt animals needed water, space, air, food and shelter. We used these ideas to design our own creative zoo enclosures, which we got to try building with blocks during centres. We will keep our eyes peeled on our field trip next week for some amazing enclosures!

We also continued our “zoo talks” by discussing endangered animals! We watched an informative clip during our snack break on what endangered animals are, which animals are endangered, how animals become endangered and why it is important to support these animals/resolve the issue of an endangered species! Parents, don’t forget to ask about these questions before/after the zoo trip so they can share some cool facts with you too!

Thank you to our families for coming to the Tuscany Year End Barbecue on Thursday evening. It was so nice to see everyone together, and celebrate such an incredible year at Tuscany School. We hope you all had as much fun as we did!

As we are sure you are aware - our caterpillars are now in their chrysalis forms! The students have been so excited to follow the transformations of our caterpillars and are eagerly waiting for their next steps… Butterflies!

Zoo Trip

We’re so excited that our zoo trips are nearly here! Please check out the below information:

  • AM Zoo Trip - All day, Tuesday, June 21 (no school for PM students)
  • PM Zoo Trip - All day, Wednesday, June 22 (no school for AM students)

Top Tips:

  • Dress appropriately for the weather, including wearing hats, comfortable shoes and sunscreen.
  • Pack a full water bottle and avoid packing juice.
  • Pack a healthy lunch and a few snacks.
  • Avoid packing “extra” items in backpacks.

Sports Day

Tuscany School will be having our annual Sports Day on the morning of Thursday, June 23! This event will be school-wide, though as it occurs in the morning, PM students are invited to join if a parent or guardian accompanies their child for the duration of this morning (9:00 - 11:00 am).

We are also excited to share that Mme Bennett’s Grade 4/5 students will be planning a “Mini Sports Day” (Kindie Carnavale) for PM Kindergarten students on the same afternoon (Thursday, June 23)! Activities will be planned/led by all the wonderful 4/5 students, and we will not require any parent volunteers. We are hoping this will be a great alternative for those students who are unable to attend the whole-school morning Sports Day.
