Bonjour! Hello! Oki! Kindergarten families,

This week in Kindergarten

Although this week was a short week, it has been nothing short of busy! So many things to celebrate in Kindergarten this week starting with our awesome Valentine’s day celebration on Monday! Students were so thrilled to receive and offer special cards for all of their friends in the classroom. We took turns reading each other's names on the Valentine’s cards and connecting those sounds with our classmates spoken names. We also took the time to understand why we celebrate Valentine’s Day, and how it is a day to show our love and appreciation for important people in our lives. So fun!

Though Monday was Valentine’s day, it was also the day that we began our awesome Carnaval festivities at school! We started by learning what Carnaval de Québec is and discussing a variety of symbols that we may see during Carnaval. We used these to design our effigies (shrinky dinks) to create keychains. Students will be taking these home next week! We also learned all about Bonhomme de Carnaval, and were lucky enough to even have been visited by Bonhomme himself! We showed him our awesome high kicks, and a variety of musical instrument dance moves, while singing Bonhomme, Bonhomme. We also spent some time building our classroom ice palaces! Thankfully we had some snow the night before to help construct the walls of our ice palace. Students really enjoyed working together to build some amazing artwork.

Pink Shirt Day

Next week, we will be discussing Pink Shirt Day. As Pink Shirt Day is an Anti-Bullying event, we will be discussing what it means to be a good friend and how to show kindness to others. Please join us in our discussion on Pink Shirt Day, and support anti-bullying, by wearing pink to school on Wednesday, February 23rd. Check out these resources for more information:
